Why didn't Lord Krishna marry Sri Radha?

Whenever the example of love is given, the name of Shri Krishna-Radha's love is taken at the top.  The love of Radha-Shri Krishna is called the union of the soul and the Supreme Soul. 

We have full grown paying attention to the stories of the affection for Radha and Krishna. Their kinship, love and fellowship consistently made us need to have somebody like that in our life. Either narrated to us by our grandparents, parents, teachers, or television shows, the story of Radhe Krishna made us believe in love. Their name became the metaphor of love.  For centuries, generations have been reading the love story of Radha-Krishna, but whenever we hear the love story of Radha-Shri Krishna, the question that comes to mind is why did Shri Krishna not marry Radha?  Many types of explanations are given behind this. 

Let's know about all those stories.

While there are many stories about why 

they never got married, I have picked the most famous ones just so you get your answers.

There are many stories behind why he cursed the divine love of Radha and Krishna. However, the two most famous ones are as follows:

• According to some scholars, the story of Radha-Krishna became popular after the Bhakti movement in the late medieval period.  The poets of that time gave a physical form to this spiritual connection.  In ancient times Rukmini, Satyabhama, Sametha Srikrishnamasara were prevalent in which there is no mention of Radha.  Devaki's son Shri Krishna stayed in Gokul for some time and after that went to Vrindavan.

• The abode of Lord Shri Krishna is in Goloka. Where Kanha lives, so do all his followers and loved ones. Radha herself resides in Goloka with Shri Krishna. Once Goddess Radha was not in Goloka, at that time Shri Krishna was living in Goloka with one of his friends, Viraja. When Radhaji came to know about this, she became angry and immediately went to Shri Krishna. There she expressed her anger towards Kanha and started calling him good and bad. Seeing Radha's anger towards Shri Krishna, Kanha's friend Shridama felt bad and cursed Radha to take birth on earth. Seeing Radha so angry, Viraja went away in the form of a river.

• Shri Krishna met Radha at the age of 10.  After that he never returned to Vrindavan.  Apart from this, there is no mention anywhere that Radha has ever visited Dwarka.  There is no mention of Radha in the ancient texts of South India.

• Radha and Krishna are one Atma (soul) as in they are Sakti (power) and saktiman (incredible). Radha is the energy of Lord Krishna that satisfies him, and how is it possible that he would wed his own energy? You need two individuals to get hitched, yet Radha and Krishna were one soul, they were not quite the same as one another, they dwelled in each other and there was no requirement for a union with demonstrate it.

• According to another popular interpretation, Radha once asked Krishna why he did not want to marry him.  So Lord Krishna told Radha that how can one marry his own soul?  Shri Krishna meant that he and Radha are one.  They do not exist separately.

• Radha had realized that Shri Krishna is God and she was like a devotee towards Shri Krishna.  She was lost in devotion, which sometimes people take for material love.  That's why some believe that the question of marriage between Radha and Shri Krishna does not arise, the relationship between Radha and Shri Krishna is that of a devotee and God.  Radha does not have a separate existence from Shri Krishna.  Marriage requires two people.

• To understand Radha properly, one has to understand the mystery of love.  It is the blissful feeling of spiritual love.  According to one interpretation, Krishna and Radha were married in childhood, like many children play the game of marriage, but in reality the two were never married.  Anyway, their love was more natural and spiritual than the love of married life.

• Lord Krishna was the incarnation of Lord Vishnu who had birthed to end Kansa. Rukmini too was the incarnation of Lordess Lakshmi, the wife of Lord Vishnu. Rukmini and Krishna were destined to be together because they were Visnu and Lakshmi. Even though Krishna grew up playing with Radha and remained close to her, Rukmini was with whom Krishna truly belonged.

• Shri Krishna and Radha were intimately related to each other, hence always called Radha-Krishna, not Rukmini-Krishna.  Rukmini also made a lot of efforts to get Shri Krishna.  She had gone against her brother Rukmi.  Rukmini also loved Shri Krishna like Radha, Rukmini had also sent a love letter to Shri Krishna asking her to come and take him with her.

• Rukmini had written 7 verses in the love letter.  Rukmini's love letter touched Krishna's heart and he had to accept Rukmini's request.  In this way Rukmini became the first wife of Shri Krishna.  On the other hand, Shri Krishna and Radha did not need marriage at all.

• Radha was the childhood love of Shri Krishna.  When Shri Krishna was 8 years old, both of them felt love.  After this, the whole life did not meet Shri Krishna.  Radha was acquainted with the divine qualities of Shri Krishna.  He kept the memories of love in his mind throughout his life.  That is the biggest beauty of their relationship.

• According to Brahmavaivarta Purana, Radha once had an argument with Sridama, Krishna's servant, before coming to earth.  Radharani became furious and cursed Sridama to be born as a demon.  In return, Sridama also cursed Radha that she would be born as a human and would be separated from her beloved for 100 years.  After that you will again get the company of Shri Hari and you will return to Gokul.

• It is also believed that Shri Krishna did not marry Radha because he wanted to prove that love and marriage are two different things.  Love is a selfless feeling whereas marriage is a compromise or a contract.  According to one belief, Shri Krishna did not marry Radha so that human beings could be taught about inner love.  The relationship of Radha-Shri Krishna has never been in a physical form, but it is very spiritual in nature.  Other tales prevalent in mythology cannot be compared with Radha-Krishna.

• While many stories tell us that Radha and Krishna madly loved each other, which is true, this was not the common romantic love. They loved each other but not in the usual physical sense. Radha Rani had already realised that Krishna was no common man. He was divine, she loved him like a devotee loves a God, she loved him with devotion, not lust. Her love for Krishna was beyond physicalities, her love for Krishna was divine.

These were the most popular reason behind why Radha and Krishna never got married.However, no matter how many interpretations of the love of Radha-Krishna are made, all are few.  His love will live on forever like a spiritual light for mankind.
