Why Should We Celebrate Akshay Tritiya?

According to a story of Akshaya Tritiya, in ancient times there was a Vaishya named Dharmadas. Dharmadas lived with his family in a small village. He was very poor. He was always concerned about the maintenance of his family. There were many members in his family. Dharmadas was a man of very religious aptitude, his virtue and his reverence for gods and brahmins was very famous.

After listening to the greatness of Akshaya Tritiya fast, he got up early in the morning on the arrival of Akshaya Tritiya festival and worshiped the gods and goddesses after bathing in the Ganges, pots filled with water according to the capacity, fans, barley, sattu, rice, salt, on the day of fasting. Wheat, jaggery, ghee, curd, gold and clothes etc. were placed at the feet of the Lord and offered to the Brahmins.

Seeing all this donation, Dharmadas's family members and his wife tried to stop him. He said that if Dharam Das donates all this to charity, then how will his family be brought up. Still, Dharmadas did not deviate from his charity and virtuous deeds and gave many types of donations to the Brahmins. Whenever the holy festival of Akshaya Tritiya came in his life, every time Dharmadas performed rituals like worship and charity on this day.

Suffering from many diseases and being old, he fasted and performed virtuous deeds and charity. This Vaishya became the king of Kushavati in the next birth.

It is believed that due to charity and worship done on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, he became a very rich and majestic king in his next birth. He was such a rich and majestic king that on the day of Akshaya Tritiya, even Tridev, dressed as a Brahmin, used to attend his Mahayagya.

He was never proud of his reverence and devotion, he never deviated from the path of religion despite being a great and glorious king. It is believed that this king was born in subsequent births as the famous emperor of India, Chandragupta.

Just as God has bestowed His grace on Dharmadas, in the same way, whoever listens to the importance of the story of this Akshaya Tritiya and worships and donates according to the law, he gets inexhaustible virtue and fame.
