What is Yuga?


Yuga means a period of time for a specified number of years.  Example: Kaliyuga, Dwapar, Satyayuga, Tretayuga etc.  Yuga description means how a person's life, age, height is in that era and give a detailed introduction about the incarnations occurring in them. 


• What are four Yuga?

A tithi is the time in which the longitudinal angle between the Sun and the Moon is increased by twelve degrees.  Tithis can start at any time of the day and last from nineteen to twenty-six hours.

Fifteen dates have been considered as a fortnight or fortnight.  One month of two sides including Shukla and Krishna Paksha.  Then one season of two months and thus three seasons together form one Ayan and two Ayans i.e. Uttarayan and Dakshinayan.  In this way one year of two ayans is completed.
15  Human day is called a father's day, this is one side.  One of 30 father's days is called Pitru month.  A Pitru Year of 12 Pitru Months.  That is, the life of the ancestors is considered to be 100, so from this value it took 1500 human years.
And similarly, a few days less than a month of ancestors, that is, a year of human beings, there is a divine day of the gods, in which there are two ayans, first Uttarayan and second Dakshinayana.  A divine month of thirty divine days.  The twelve divine months are called a divine year.


(1) 4,800 divine years i.e. one created era (Satyyuga).  1728000 years from the value of human years.


 (2) 3,600 divine years i.e. one Treta Yuga.  1296000 years from the value of human years.


 (3) 2,400 divine years i.e. one Dwapar Yuga. 864000 years from the value of human years.


 (4) 1,200 divine years i.e. one Kali Yuga. 432000 years from the value of human years.
12000 Divine Years i.e. 4 Yugas i.e. one Mahayuga which is also known as Divya Yuga.



• Interesting facts about four Yuga 


1. Satya Yuga


Sat Yuga is also known as Krit Yuga.  The Sat Yuga consists of a total of 17,28,000 years.

The pilgrimage of Satyayuga is Pushkar. The incarnations of this age are Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha (all inhuman incarnations).


The reason for incarnation is to kill Shankhasura and to save the Vedas, to take away the weight of the earth, to kill the demon Harinyaksha, to kill Hiranyakashipu and to give happiness to Prahlad.

The currency of this era is gems.

The characters of this era are of gold.

The deeds or truths done in the present Varaha Kalpa are considered to be of 4800 divine years. A day of Brahma is divided into 10000 parts, which are called Charan. 


2. Treta Yuga


The pilgrimage of Tretayuga is Naimisharanya.

There are total 12,96,000 years in Treta Yuga. According to the scriptures, Treta Yuga starts from the third date of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month. Which is also called Akshaya Tritiya or Akha Teej. In Treta Yuga, Dharma exists through its three stages.  


Avatars of this era – Vamana, Parashurama, Rama (King Dasharatha's house)

Due to being an incarnation, he was sent to Hades after saving the sacrifice, to kill the drunken Kshatriyas, to kill Ravana and to free the gods from bondage.

The currency of this era is gold.

The characters of this era are of silver. 

Tretayuga is considered to be of 3600 divine years. Treta Yuga is called the second era of mankind. This period ends with the death of Rama. 


3. Dwapara Yuga


The pilgrimage of Dwapara Yuga is Kurukshetra.

Dwapar Yuga consists of a total of 8,64,000 years. According to the scriptures, the Dwapar Yuga starts from the full moon date of Magha month. In Dwapara Yuga, Dharma exists through its two phases. 


The incarnations of this age - Krishna, (from the womb of Devaki and brought up in the house of Nanda), Buddha (home of the king).

Being an incarnation - Kansadi destroys the wicked and for the good of the gopas, to captivate the demon. 

The currency of this era is silver.

The characters of this era are of copper.

Dwapar is called the third era of the human period. This period ends with the death of Krishna. 


4. Kali Yuga


The pilgrimage of Kaliyuga is the Ganges.

Kal Yuga consists of total 4,32,000 years. According to the scriptures, the Kali Yuga begins from the Trayodashi date of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashadha. In Kali Yuga, Dharma exists from its 1st stage. 


Incarnation of this era – Kalki (home of Brahman Vishnu Yash).

Being an incarnation - for the salvation of mankind, the destruction of the unrighteous and the protection of religion.

The currency of this era is iron.

The vessels of this era are of clay.

1200 is considered to be a Kaliyuga of divine years. Kaliyuga is the fourth age. According to Aryabhatta, the Mahabharata war took place in 3137 BC. Happened in. Krishna died after 35 years of this war, since then it is considered the beginning of Kali Yuga. 


• Conclusion 

The four eras that are going on at present have happened many times before. It is estimated that this is the 22nd or 23rd cycle of four Yugas. There may be a flaw in the above figures, because in the Puranas, there is a different perception about the time period of the Yugas.
