Form of Mother Chandraghanta

The form of Maa Chandraghanta is gentle and full of peace.  The goddess's ride is a lion and along with her the lions also always shine like gold.  The goddess is considered to be the ultimate peacemaker and benefactor.  This form of the goddess gives satisfaction to the minds of the gods, saints and devotees.  The goddess is going to slay the demons and free man and the gods from their terror.  She is the one who removes the miseries of her devotees and hence carries a bow, trident, sword and mace in her hands.  The hour-shaped crescent is seen on the head of Goddess Chandraghanta.  That is why he is called as Chandraghanta.

Story of Maa Chandraghanta

Once the war between the gods and the demons continued for a long time.  Mahishasura was the lord of the Asuras and Indra was leading on behalf of the Devatas.  Mahishasura conquered the gods and took the throne of Indra and started ruling the heavenly world.  Seeing this, all the gods got upset and went to the Tridev Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.  The deities told that Mahishasura has taken away all the rights of Indra, Chandra, Surya, Vayu and other gods and has made himself the king of heaven by taking them hostage.  Hearing this, Brahma, Vishnu and Lord Shankar got very angry and out of anger, energy emanated from the mouth of the three deities.  The energy emanating from the body of the gods also got mixed with that energy.  It started spreading in all the ten directions.  Then a goddess incarnated there.  Lord Shankar presented the trident to the goddess and Lord Vishnu gave the chakra.  Similarly, other gods and goddesses also decorated weapons in the hands of the mother.  Indra also gave his thunderbolt and Airavat an hour after getting down from the elephant.  Surya gave his sharp and sword and gave a lion to ride.  The goddess was now fully prepared for the battle with Mahishasura. Seeing her gigantic form, Mahishasura understood that her time had come.  Mahishasura asked his army to attack the goddess.  The other Deityas and the contingents of the demons also jumped into the battle.  The goddess killed Mahishasura in a single stroke.

Importance of worshiping Maa Chandraghanta

One who takes refuge in the Goddess never leaves empty handed.  If the enemy is afraid, then the worship of the Goddess becomes very fruitful.  Also, if the planets in the horoscope are troublesome or are in a weak state, then worshiping the goddess frees the planet from the defect.  By removing fear, the goddess infuses confidence in man.  Also provides beautiful physique.
